The delayed opening of Genting Malaysia’s SkyWorlds theme park, which was pushed from December 10 to Chinese New Year, was caused by software issues, the company reported. The Year of the Tiger begins February 1.
According to Asia Gaming Brief, the park is expected to be the “key draw” at Resorts World Genting in Kuala Lumpur, which saw strong visitation in December, despite the postponement.
Maybank Research cited the Google Mobility Retail & Recreation Index to show that Malaysians are more willing to gather in outdoor settings—a positive for the resort in Genting Highlands.
The country has a high vaccination rate and the number of hospitalizations and fatalities has dropped. Though SkyWorlds is expected to be lose money at first, Maybank had a “buy” rating on Genting Malaysia stock.
“The upcoming Chinese New Year ought to be good for RWG,” said Maybank RB analyst Samuel Yin Shao Yang.
