A groundbreaking ceremony recently was held for the million, 108-room hotel expansion planned at Saratoga Casino and Raceway in Saratoga Springs, New York. Corporate Secretary James Featherstonhaugh said, “The hotel will be a four-star hotel and will compete favorably with anything else in the area. We think that with the addition of electronic table games it’s nearly the final piece in making us a complete destination casino.” Featherstonhaugh referred to the table games with live dealers at the future 0 million Rivers Casino in Schenectady as “old fashioned” and said Saratoga offers a more “modern place” to gamble. The state gaming commission still must approve the Schenectady casino.
President of Saratoga Casino and Raceway Dan Gerrity added, “This is a transformational project. This hotel will give guests something they’ve been long requesting, and will allow us to remain a competitive economic driver in the region for years to come.”
The project will take one year to complete, providing up to 500 union construction jobs and up to 300 permanent jobs. Currently the property employs 400 full time and 200 part time workers. It’s expected to have an economic impact of more than $5.4 million and $1.75 million in state and local tax revenue.
The 123,000 square foot expansion will include a 4-star style hotel with an indoor pool, fitness center, lobby bar, fine dining and meeting rooms.
