Senecas Could Grow in Cuba

Seneca Gaming and Entertainment cut the ribbon on its new gaming facility in Cuba, New York on August 1. The mini-casino with 100 Class II games has been open since July 4. Already tribal officials are talking about a possible expansion.

Long-term plan could include golf, a hotel

Seneca Gaming and Entertainment’s new bingo parlor in Cuba, New York could expand. The mini-casino, across the street from a longstanding tribal smoke shop, opened July 4. The official ribbon-cutting took place August 1.

“I see visions of a future development with collaborations with the community and the town of Cuba and the Cuba Lake Commission,” said Seneca Nation Treasurer Rodney Pierce.

According to the Wellsville, NY, Daily Reporter, the Class II facility has been doing well since it opened on Cuba Lake. But Judy Farmer, acting director for Class II and other speakers said they look forward to bringing more development here in future.

“With over 100 Class II games and over 35 good-paying jobs, we look forward to partnering with the community,” said Farmer.

“There’s a general plan for doing a par 3 golf course and amphitheater by the lake,” said Class II Chairman Scott Snyder. “We’re going to put our permanent facility by the lake. Since our opening on July 4, we have been pushing to do better for our guests. When you do a project, you look at the five-, 10-year plan.”

A hotel could also be in the works, said Pierce. “First we would have to develop a feasibility study in the field of family and hospitality. What could we do and what would be the time frame? Plus we need revenue projections to attract the Seneca Nation to continue to support this and support from the private sector as well.”
