The $500 million Sky River Casino owned by the Wilton Rancheria in Elk Grove, Northern California is contemplating an expansion, just eight months after it opened last August.
The casino has been very successful under its operator, Boyd Gaming, said that company’s CEO Keith Smith. So successful that Boyd upped its full year management fees for 2023 from $50 million to $70 million, CDC Gaming Reports wrote. Boyd has a seven-year management contract with the tribe.
The tribe is considering expanding Sky River. It operates the casino on 36 acres with 2,000 slots, 80 gaming tables and 17 eateries.
Smith, speaking at a Boyd first-quarter earnings conference call, said, “It’s really up to them. I don’t know if they’ve disclosed exactly what it is they want to do, but they want to expand it.” He added, “I would imagine it would be some combination, but [the tribe] has to make the determination as to what it is and what they want to do.”
The property doesn’t have a hotel, convention space or live entertainment venue. Those amenities could be added to the property the tribe owns that’s adjacent to the casino.
