SkyCity Signs Deal with S. Australia

New Zealand-listed SkyCity Entertainment Group has signed an agreement with the South Australian government to expand its Adelaide Casino (l.) and the adjoining Riverbank Precinct.

CEO pledges “amazing transformation”

SkyCity Entertainment has announced it will begin work on an expansion of its Adelaide Casino and the adjoining Riverbank Precinct, according to a statement from the company.

SkyCity and the South Australian government will share the cost of the preparatory work, which will include road modifications, grade leveling, structural piling, and other pre-development measures. Those early works are expected to begin in the second half of 2016.

John Mortensen, interim CEO of the company since the departure of Nigel Morrison, said the agreement is the first big step toward a major expansion of the company’s Adelaide Casino. “We’re delighted that we’ve got agreement on the first phase of work on what will be an amazing rejuvenation of the Riverbank Precinct,” he said. “SkyCity’s Adelaide Casino expansion will bring high net-worth visitors to South Australia, providing a significant boost to the tourism industry.’’

The company is planning to spend up to $A300 million (US$215.9 million) to transform the Adelaide Casino into what it describes as “a world-class integrated entertainment destination, including a boutique hotel, new VIP gaming salons and signature restaurants.”
