SkyCity to Expand Adelaide Casino

SkyCity Entertainment Group, which enjoyed a 14 percent hike in earnings for the first four months of the financial year, will begin a US$215 million expansion of its Adelaide Casino in southern Australia.

Adding hotel, restaurants, more

On the strength of a recent 14 percent increase in earnings, SkyCity CEO Nigel Morrison has confirmed that the Auckland-based company will move forward with a planned US$215 million expansion of its Adelaide Casino in southern Australia.

The expansion plan, first considered in 2012, was shelved due to financial underperformance. It will include a new 80-room hotel, new restaurants, an upgraded gaming floor and high-roller area, a spa and rooftop pool, according to the company.

“This development will help transform Station Road into a true entertainment precinct and SkyCity’s investment will create much-needed jobs and economic growth for South Australia,” said Morrison.

According to the website Yogonet.com, SkyCity saw revenues of US$235.5 million during the period for a 77 percent rise in earnings at Adelaide Casino, with revenue increasing 24 percent. “Significant progress has been made on addressing the cost structure of the Adelaide operations,” said Morrison.
