The iGaming market in Spain grew 2.8 percent year-on-year for the third quarter of 2020. Though sports betting revenues were down, growth from other verticals including online casinos made up for the shortfall, according to iGamingBusiness.com.
Revenue for the three months to September 30 rose to €197.2 million (US$241.9 million), with player stakes growing 11.9 percent to €853.3 million. Online casinos saw revenues increase 26 percent year-on-year to €83.9 million, second only to sports betting as the main source of revenue, though casino totals were actually down more than 10 percent quarter-over-quarter.
Sports betting began to recover in the third quarter, with revenue up 25.1 percent from the previous quarter to €85.2 million, but still down 15.4 percent from the same period in 2019.
The return of sports also suggested activity shifted from other forms of gambling back to betting. Bingo, poker and real-money contests all reporting a similar pattern to online casino, with revenue down quarter-on-quarter, but up year-over-year.
