The annual Indian gaming conference SPiCE will not take place as planned March 25-27, at the Goa Marriott Resort & Spa.
That’s a turnabout from earlier this month, when Jay Sayta, strategic advisor for conference organizer Eventus International, said, “No one has tested positive for Covid-19 in Goa to date and the situation appears to be normal.” But then the Indian government announced it would be canceling all existing visas for foreign nationals, with the exception of diplomatic and employment visas, until April 15 to curb the impact of the coronavirus.
“Eventus International has concluded that unfortunately, it is impossible to continue with SPiCE India 2020 as per its current schedule of 25-27 March 2020,” stated Yudi Soetjiptadi, Eventus’ managing director. “Although our team was fully ready to host the event as per the schedule, and all preparations were done, due to recent developments and the most recent travel ban issued by the Indian government, it is impossible for us to continue with SPiCE India 2020 on schedule.”
Yudi Soetjiptadi said the organizer is “evaluating the situation further and will discuss it with our advisors and stakeholders before making an announcement on the new dates.”
