Sun International Faces Probe

South African hotel and gaming group Sun International has acknowledged that it is under investigation by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The probe is related to Sun’s investment in the Tourist Company of Nigeria.

Little details about detained staff

Sun International, a casino company based in South Africa, is under investigation by the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, according to the Reuters news agency.

The probe is related to the company’s $50 million investment in the Tourist Company of Nigeria, which operates two hotels and a casino. Four employees were detained in Nigeria in an action that apparently was also related to the investigation, according to multiple reports, all of which were short on details. According to those reports, Sun International “secured the release” of the staffers, and expressed gratitude on their release.

“The EFCC still wishes to investigate the nature of Sun International’s original investment into TCN as well as TCN’s trading records and has requested that TCN provide them with information and documentation,” Sun said in a statement. “Sun International has no difficulty with this request and intends to work with TCN to collate and provide the required information to the EFCC.”

Sun International was founded by Sol Kerzner and best known for its Sun City Resort.
