Support for Uzbekistan Sports Betting Evaporates

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirzivoyev has withdrawn support for a decree that would have led to the legalization of betting.

Local news media reported recently that the president was no longer supporting a legislative framework to regulate sportsbook and sweepstakes.

Two and a half years ago the leadership of the Liberal Party announced it was back legalized sports betting and sweepstakes. The party went so far as to draft plans to create “licensed betting zones” in the city of Muynak.

However, two years later, the government failed to meeting a deadline of January 1, 2022 to launch the regulations.

President Mirzivoyev announced that the decree is no longer valid and the government has decided instead of legalization, to crack down on black market gambling operators.
