The Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Nation of San Diego county, is poised to open the $260 million Sycuan Casino Resort’s first hotel after two years of construction.
It includes a 300-room hotel, spa, fitness center and lazy river pool feature. The construction is expected to add another 750 jobs to the property.
It will also add another 500 slot machines to its existing 2,000, an addition made possible by an amendment to the tribe’s compact with the state of California.
Cody Martinez, tribal chairman for the Sycuan band told NBC 7 San Diego “It’s pretty frantic inside and outside.” He added, “When this casino opened in 1983, I was 2 years old. So I’ve grown up with it in my backyard, so it’s passionate for us, because this is everything. It’s our life.”
Sycuan is one of ten casinos in San Diego County, which has undergone a major renovation or addition that has totaled more than $1 billion. The county has more casinos than any other in the state.
