Taos Pueblo Tribe Looks at Improving Casino

New leaders of the Taos Pueblo in New Mexico have a lot on their plate as they begin their one-year terms. One thing they are looking at is increasing the profitability of the Taos Mountain Casino (l.).

Newly empanelled Taos Pueblo leaders are looking at a multitude of issues to tackle during their one-year terms, including improving the profitability of the tribal casino.

Recently Governor Benito M. Sandoval and Richard Archuleta, War Chief, both elected to one-year terms, talked about how they hammer out the agenda for the coming year. During the first month the leaders attended meeting after meeting with department heads and tribal members to see what issues should be addressed. This will then be included as part of the tribal master plan.

The Taos Mountain Casino, and the need to make it more profitable, will be an integral part of that plan. What exactly that entails hasn’t been revealed as yet.

Governor Sandoval owns the Tiwa Kitchen restaurant, and plans to apply his business know how to the casino review.

The tribe is also putting some land into trust and designating parcels totaling about 20 acres for housing development.

Sandoval told the Taos News: “Right now, I think we’re on the right path.”
