Treasure Island Begins $19 Million Expansion

A water park, spa and fitness center will be built at Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Welch, Minnesota, owned and operated by the Prairie Island Indian Community. The $19 million, 40,000 square foot expansion project is expected to be completed early next year and create at least 20 new jobs.

Prairie Island Tribal Council President Ron Johnson and other officials participated in a ceremonial blessing of the grounds at the recent groundbreaking for a million expansion project at Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Welch, Minnesota.

“It’s another example of our community’s investment in diversification and growth, two key elements to the continued success of our tribe. Equally important to this project is Prairie Island’s commitment to investing in the local economy,” Johnson said. The addition is expected to be completed in early 2016 and will create at least 20 new jobs.

The 40,000 square foot expansion will include a water park, spa and fitness center. The water park will feature a recreational pool and lazy river with two 24-foot water slides, a zero-depth pool, kids’ splash area and a separate pool, swim-up bar and hot tubs for adults.

Owned and operated by the Prairie Island Indian Community, Treasure Island features a casino, 493-room hotel and 3,000-seat convention center. As the largest employer in Goodhue County, it employs more than 1,500 people.
