As part of its million expansion, Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Red Wing, Minnesota, owned and operated by the Prairie Island Indian Community, recently opened a 40,000 square foot water park called the Lagoon, plus a new full-service salon spa and an updated fitness center. Treasure Island spokeswoman Cindy Taube said, “This really will appeal to families on vacation. We’ll have a larger draw throughout the Midwest. It’s also awesome for people who want a staycation — not go far, but still get away.” Tribal Council President Shelley Buck added, “It is important to our tribe and Treasure Island to be a destination of choice in Southern Minnesota, bringing in more visitors and tourists to the area. This benefits all of the neighboring businesses in the area.”
The Treasure Island expansion created more than 30 new jobs, increasing the property’s workforce to more than 1,500 employees.
The water park features a 320-foot-long lazy river with rapids, two 276-foot body slides, a zero-depth entry pool, a children’s area and an adults-only area equipped with an indoor and an outdoor hot tub. The attraction offers the state’s only swim-up bar. An eco-friendly filtration system uses sphagnum moss. In addition, a 14,000 square foot terrace offers custom fire pits and a Mississippi River view. Retractable glass panels can be opened in warmer weather. Day passes are $14.95 per person; hotel guests may use the water park at no charge.
Treasure Island’s new Wave Spa offers haircuts, pedicures, manicures, waxing and massages. A special relaxation room with a fireplace and lounge chairs holds up to 12 people.
In the past year, the Tado Steakhouse opened and the Tradewinds Buffet was renovated at Treasure Island.
