Trop AC Celebrates Renovation

Tropicana Atlantic City held a Boardwalk bash to celebrate completion of a $50 million renovation project creating new suites, casino areas and a state-of-the-art fitness center (l.).

Light shows, marching bands and fireworks accompanied the unveiling Friday of the Tropicana Atlantic City’s million renovation. Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian and Tropicana President and CEO Tony Rodio hosted the celebration, which heralds a revamped casino floor, new two-floor suites in the North Tower, and a state-of-the-art fitness center sponsored by AtlantiCare Lifecenter.

The revitalization project, completed thanks to money from the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, features a modern design, including marble flooring and sleek lighting, applied to the Trop’s table-game area, along with a floor-to-ceiling makeover of the North Tower’s 434 rooms, and addition of a new lounge called 10 North.

The new fitness center is a first for Atlantic City casinos. The 12,455-square-foot fitness center, opened earlier this month, features state-of-the-art equipment, programming and exercise classes. Tropicana hotel guests can use the center any time, and public memberships also are available. AtlantiCare contributed $1 million for the center and furnished all of the equipment.

“We’re very excited about it, especially the hotel sales people,” Tropicana General Manager Steve Callender told GGB News. “One of the things we need to do here is bring more convention business and more groups to town, and those folks like to work out when they go out on business. We really hit it out of the park with this facility.”

But front-and-center for Friday’s celebration was the new multimedia sound and light show on the Tropicana’s Boardwalk façade. A vertical corner marquee combines with 66-foot-tall, 360-foot-long grouping of LED screens across the resort’s façade, featuring strobe lights and choreographed sound and video to begin at dusk every night. The launch was celebrated with a patriotic-themed display.

“The technology is unbelievable,” said Callender, “and people are going to be really impressed. What’s more important is that it brings people to Atlantic City who haven’t been coming here, and brings people to our end of the Boardwalk.”

The kickoff festivities, broadcast on a live feed from KOOL 98.3 FM, included performances by the Atlantic City High School Marching Band and a public Zumba class by AtlantiCare LifeCenter Fitness. It was capped of by Grucci fireworks displays Friday and Saturday nights.
