Trump Plaza Implosion Gets $60,000+ in Bids

On December 17, Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. announced an auction for the right to press the button to implode the now defunct Trump Plaza. As of the morning of December 21, the auction has attracted more than $60,000 in bids. Proceeds will go the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City.

Several Go-Fund-Me accounts have been opened to allow everyone from Stormy Daniels to Hillary Clinton to push the button.

The original implosion, set for January 29, will take place at a February date to be named later, according to the Press of Atlantic City. When it crumbles to the ground, Trump Plaza will represent the last vestige of the Trump name in Atlantic City. The Trump Castle, later Trump Marina, is now the Golden Nugget. Trump Taj Mahal is Hard Rock.

Opened in 1984, Trump Plaza closed down in 2014 and two years later, Carl Icahn purchased the property.

A spring storm this year dislodged pieces of the façade, creating a hazard. A court complaint set the stage of the upcoming implosion.
