Turning Stone to Start $100 Million Retail Expansion

The Oneida Indian Nation soon will begin work on the delayed $100 million retail expansion of the tribe’s Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. A large response from prospective retailers necessitated design changes that delayed the expansion by about a year, as it was moved to a different part of the resort.

The Oneida Indian Nation will begin its planned 0 million expansion of retail space at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York, this spring, the tribe announced.

The $100 million retail expansion will add 250,000 square feet of retail and dining space to the resort, which plans to add up to 60 luxury-brand stores, a multi-screen movie theater, and 15,000 square feet of restaurant space. Additional features will include specially designed fountains and daily aquatic shows, the tribe said.

The Oneida tribe announced the project in 2014 and planned to get underway last year, but said an large number of potential retail tenants slowed the process, as the tribe changed the location’s expansion in relation to the casino in order to accommodate more retailers.

Gordon Group Holdings of Connecticut will complete the expansion project and operate it after its completion, which is anticipated sometime next year.

One once open, the expanded retail space should support up to 600 new jobs, including full-time and part-time positions, the Oneida Nation said.

The expansion required a slight change to the course design of the adjacent Shenandoah Golf Course. Thanks to an unseasonably warm fall and early winter, workers already completed the golf course’s redesign to enable Turning Stone’s retail expansion.

The Turning Stone’s Skana spa also earned high honors, as Spas of America recently ranked it the world’s third-best. The spa is located in the Lodge at Turning Stone hotel.
