UK Gambling Drops

Gambling dropped by 2 percent in the UK in 2013 according to a UK Gambling Commission report, but online gambling showed signs of growth.

The UK Gambling Commission reports that the number of people in the country participating in gambling activities dropped by 2 percent in 2013.

In the report “Gambling Participation: Activities and Mode of Access,” the commission found that 55 percent of respondents had participated in at least one form of gambling in the previous four weeks. The figure was down from 57 percent in 2012.

The report also found that 60 percent of male respondents said they had gambled in the previous four weeks, compared to just 50 percent of females.

The numbers, however, suggested that online gambling is growing in the UK. About 15percent of respondents said they had gambled online in the past four weeks, compared to 14 percent in the previous year.

The National Lottery remained the most popular type of gambling activity with 43 percent of respondents saying they had played the lottery. That, however, was down three percent from 2012.
