UN to Issue Handbook to Prevent Fixing

An arm of the United Nations plans to issue a handbook for sports governing bodies on protecting the integrity of sports in the wake of match-fixing scandals.

The United Nations division dealing with international organized crime has a new target—match-fixing that influences an internet sports gambling industry estimated at trillion annually.

According to the Yahoo News outlet, the handbook will serve as a guideline for sports governing bodies to protect the integrity of athletes—prominently, players in international tennis matches, identified as the third-most vulnerable sport for gambling-related manipulation of matches.

The concern has spread to the U.S., where at least 20 states are taking action against daily fantasy sports companies.
