Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration officials recently confirmed the website address printed on 798,000 active Maryland license plates is associated with a Philippines-based gambling website.

The officials said the website starspangled200.org, which appears on War of 1812 license plates, the state’s basic plates from 2012 to 2016, no longer leads to the original website.

The plates were designed by the War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission. The website originally directed visitors to Star-Spangled 200 Inc., the nonprofit group designated by the commission to raise funds for bicentennial projects and events.

The MVA said it is not affiliated in any way with the website now using the URL. Officials said the department’s information technology department is working to resolve the situation.
