DraftKings at Casino Queen, on the Mississippi River in St. Louis, has announced Marc VanderWeele as the property’s new general manager. VanderWeele has worked at the former Casino Queen since its opening in 1993.
“Marc has been a trusted member of DraftKings at Casino Queen since the day it opened, and is an ideal fit for general manager,” said Terry Downey, president and CEO of CQ Holding Company, Inc. “He brings in-depth knowledge specific to the community and local industry that can only be accumulated over the time. We’re confident that he will continue to propel DraftKings at Casino Queen forward with his strategic vision for guest service and property operations.”
In his new role, VanderWeele oversees the day-to-day general operations and provides leadership to department heads and team members to cultivate an exceptional guest experience. He is also overseeing the highly anticipated opening of DraftKings at Casino Queen’s newly remodeled sportsbook, which is slated to become one of the top wagering and sports betting destinations in the region. The stylish and spacious sportsbook will offer oversized screens and state-of-the-art technology in a relaxed, comfortable setting.
Prior to joining DraftKings at Casino Queen, VanderWeele worked in the golf course industry in Las Vegas, then began his career in the gaming industry as a casino dealer at Gold Coast Hotel & Casino. Encouraged by the owners to transfer to East St. Louis, Illinois to help open Casino Queen, VanderWeele followed the opportunity for growth. For the first several months, his talents were activated as a dealer before he was promoted to floor supervisor, then pit boss in 1999, shift manager in 2004 and director of table games in 2013, during which he had oversight of the player development team.
