Vegas Visitors Younger, Less Likely to Gamble

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has released its visitor profile for 2013. The average Vegas visitor last year spent more on food and drink and less on gambling than in years past. But those who gambled spent more playing their favorite games.

International visitation on the rise

The Las Vegas crowd is younger and includes fewer gamblers, according to a new visitor profile from the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The younger guests are also spending more money on food and drink than they did five years ago.

According to the 103-page report, based on thousands of surveys conducted in 2013, the average visitor now is 45 years old, most likely married, and earns more than $40,000 a year. The average spending on food and drink during a four-plus day stay was just under $279, and 72 percent of visitors attended shows, reported the Las Vegas Sun.

Only 71 percent of visitors gamble, down from 83 percent five years ago. But the gambling budget for a trip among those who played averaged $539 in 2013, up from $485 in 2012 and $482 in 2009, reported the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

There has been a steady increase in the number of international visitors to Sin City, growing from 14 percent in 2009 to 20 percent in 2013.
