With about 80 percent of consumers now owning a cellphone or tablet device, online gaming providers are optimizing their systems for mobile gaming, but many are missing millennials.
With the growth of mobile technology, mobile gaming has grown at a steady 10 percent clip the past couple years, and some analysts say about 40 percent of the market could be tied to mobile punters over the next two years.
Studies also show the average age of mobile gaming users is between 35 and 40, making it an activity that millennials generally avoid. To reach younger players, sites are working to become more immersive and interactive, both of which are traits commonly sought in online gaming by younger adults.
That’s where virtual reality could become the next big thing in mobile and online gaming.
The global virtual reality market is expected to top 171 million users by 2018, and wearable technology makes it mobile. It also offers a thoroughly immersive environment for players that also is highly interactive.
The technology will continue to improve and evolve, and new titles and experiences are being created in greater numbers each year.
Soon, that means online gaming could transform into a more exciting and portable form of gaming that millennials can share and experience with their friends, and help the gaming industry to grow locally, nationally, and globally.
