Wynn Macau Supports Local Business

Wynn Macau is planning to work with Macau’s Chamber of Commerce to develop a “procurement partnership program” that supports local small and medium businesses in the territory.

Compliance vital to mid-term review process

Wynn Macau is following the example of Sands China and MGM Macau to “fulfill (its) social responsibilities” to small and medium-sized local enterprises, according to a report in the Asia Gaming Brief.

At a January 29 press conference, Wynn Macau announced it has compiled 36 types of procurement projects for local companies under its “Local SME Procurement Partnership Programme.” Sands China and MGM Macau launched similar initiatives last year.

Linda Chen, executive director of Wynn Resorts, said Wynn Macau has been “cooperating with local enterprises. And of course with Wynn Palace, there are more chances for cooperation with them. We think now is a good time for us to emphasize the support for SMEs more.”

Chui Yuk Lam, vice president of the Macau Chamber of Commerce, said he is negotiating with the remaining gaming companies “to launch their own buy-local initiative to support SMEs,” according to AGB.

Steve Wynn’s Hong Kong-listed subsidiary was driven in part by the government’s mid-term review process, which will determine if the city’s Big 6 casino concessionaires have their contracts renewed in 2020. In addition to supporting local businesses, last year Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac called on casinos to also introduce more non-gaming amenities to help Macau achieve its goal of economic diversification.

Leong said the review would also assess each concessionaire’s contribution to local job creation.
