Wynn Promises Biggest Japan IR

Wynn Resorts wants to go big in Japan. The U.S.-based gaming company has promised it will build the “world’s largest” integrated resort if it wins its bid for one of three IR licenses up for grabs there. Wynn is targeting Tokyo, Yokohama and Osaka.

Wynn Promises Biggest Japan IR

Wynn Resorts clearly believes size matters in its bid for one of three integrated resorts licenses to be awarded in Japan. The U.S.-based global operator will build “the largest integrated resort in the world,” said Wynn Japan Development President Chris Gordon at a recent press conference for Japanese media. Gordon said a Wynn IR in Japan would be bigger than any in Macau, Singapore or Las Vegas.

According to Asia Gaming Brief, Gordon added that Wynn’s initial investment will be in the $8 billion to $9 billion range, with annual operating expenses at between $940 million and $1.4 billion. The IR would put a lot of people to work too, he said, providing between 11,000 and 16,700 new jobs.

The company will open an office in the Marunouchi district of Tokyo this summer, according to CDC Gaming Reports.

Wynn hopes to work with a local partner to develop the resort complex in a major city like Tokyo, Yokohama or Osaka. The latter has been seen as a leading contender for an IR, especially since it will host the 2025 World Expo. Yumeshima, a manmade island in Osaka and the future site of the expo has also been mentioned as a prime spot for an integrated resort.
