Wyoming OKs Gaming Commission

Soon the free-wheeling state of Wyoming could become a little more fenced in, with a new gaming commission to bring maverick video gaming machines in line. The bill must be signed by Governor Mark Gordon (l.).

Wyoming OKs Gaming Commission

On March 10, the Wyoming Senate approved a bill that will set up a gaming commission that will decide how video gaming will be regulated in the state. The bill was previously approved by the House, and now awaits the signature of Governor Mark Gordon.

Many stakeholders had asked lawmakers to step in the regulate machines that have proliferated over the last few years because laws didn’t exist that applied to them.

There was some opposition to the bill because many felt that it opened the door for expanded gaming when most people in the state oppose that.

Byron Oedekoven of the Wyoming Association of Sheriffs and Chiefs of Police recently told Wyoming Public Media, “I’m not sure what the appetite is, but I recognize we have the issue and the problem of the day and that is dealing with the machines and I think the gaming commission can certainly do that.”

The bill mandates the gaming commission to spend 14 months reviewing the operators of video gaming machines.
