Fire Temporarily Closes Coushatta

A small fire in an electrical box led to the evacuation and 12-hour closing of the Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana on February 15. No patrons were injured and damage was minimal, said spokesman Bryan Williams.

The Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana was evacuated and closed for more than 12 hours starting at 9:30 p.m., Saturday, February 15, after a small electrical fire, caused by a short in an electrical box, was reported. No patrons were injured and damage was minimal, said Coushatta Casino spokesman Bryan Williams. “It’s normal procedure to evacuate, not only for the safety of our associates, but for the safety of our guests,” he said.

Hundreds of posts on Facebook spread the news about the fire and evacuation.

Most of the gaming tables and slot machines reopened at 11 a.m. Sunday, as well as all of the cafes and restaurants in the casino, Williams said.

The Grand Hotel at Coushatta, Feather Fuel and other properties on the casino grounds were not affected.
