A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at the Golden Nugget Danville Casino in Illinois on April 19. Jimmy Wilmot, president of Danville Development, said, “By mid-March of 2023 we’d be opening the doors. We might pick up or lose some time.”
The proposed Golden Nugget Danville Casino at 204 Eastgate Drive will feature a 41,500-square-foot gaming floor with 500 slot machines, 14 table games and a sportsbook. Online gaming and digital sports betting will be available through Golden Nugget Online Gaming. The venue also will offer two restaurants, including a Saltgrass Steakhouse. Wilmot said the project will create 300 jobs.
Since receiving preliminary suitability approval, Wilmot said his company has been in constant communication with the Illinois Gaming Board to make sure the project is in compliance. Financing will be finalized soon, he said, then the general contractor will be given notice.
The first action will be to demolish a 50,000-square-foot building on the site. A 60,000-square-foot pre-manufactured metal building will remain.
