Lottery Jackpot Rigging Scandal Grows In Scope As Trials Near

Tipton brothers Eddie and Tommy will go on trial early next year for fixing lottery games in five states. They also allegedly could have fixed more lottery games, prosecutors said, citing the Tiptons' involvement in a rigged Colorado game and software manipulation on lottery computers in Iowa and Indiana.

Brothers Eddie Tipton and Tommy Tipton are about to go on trial for conspiring to fix lottery games in five states. Now prosecutors recently said the Tiptons also were involved in a rigged Colorado game and manipulating software on Indiana and Iowa lottery computers. These actions could have led to more fixed lottery games if the conspiracy had not been discovered.

Eddie Tipton, a former lottery computer technology official, will go on trial in Des Moines in February. Tommy Tipton, of Texas, will go on trial in January. The brothers are charged with ongoing criminal conduct along with Eddie Tipton’s friend Robert Rhodes, who will testify against the Tiptons under a plea deal.

Prosecutors allege Eddie Tipton hid a false number generating program on lottery computers, allowing him to predict numbers that led to him winning more than $2 million. Attorneys for the Tiptons said the state can’t prove the charges.
