Melco Crown has completed installing facial recognition technology, supplied by Cognitec, at its City of Dreams and Studio City casino resort properties in Macau.
It’s the first time the Cognitec technology has been used by a Macau casino operator. In Melco’s case, its application in a casino setting is intended to thwart people who have previously been barred from entering for various reasons and alert officials to suspicious activity of all kinds.
The system will detect the faces of individuals in real time and compare the faces found to photos stored in a database. When a match is found the system alerts the security staff.
Stephen Meltz, the Cognitec managing director for the Asia-Pacific division, said the system is the first of its kind to be used in a casino setting.
