New Jersey was back before an appellate court trying to argue that the state has the right to allow a self-regulated sports betting industry at its casinos and racetracks without violating a federal ban on state-sponsored sports betting. The state, represented by former U.S. Solicitor General Ted Olson (l.), made its arguments before the full Third Circuit Appellate Court in Philadelphia. Opponents of the state’s plan argued that allowing sports betting only at regulated casinos and racetracks was actually violating the ban because it would be unregulated.

Atlantic City’s casino revenue declined 3.8 percent in January compared to January 2015 despite a record win for online gambling. Officials blamed a major blizzard that hit the Northeast during January for much of the decline. Without online gambling, the casino’s monthly take was down 5.6 percent.
