Sunshine Suzanne Sykes (l.) is the first member of the Navajo Nation to be nominated to be a federal court judge. She was nominated by President Joe Biden to be a judge for the Central District of California.

President Joe Biden has nominated Sunshine Suzanne Sykes, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation to be a judge of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

Sykes is from Tuba City, Arizona. If confirmed, she would be the first Indian judge in California and the first federal judge from the Navajo Nation. She currently serves as a California Superior Court judge.

She earned her degree from Stanford Law School.
