After an almost two-year absence, legendary entertainer Wayne Newton will be back onstage in Las Vegas, performing at the Wayne Newton Theater, aka Bugsy’s Cabaret, inside the Flamingo.
“Wayne: Up Close and Personal,” which will feature music, storytelling and video memories in a cabaret setting, will run through June.
Newton began performing at the Flamingo in 1963, back in the “Danke Schoen” days, he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
“It took me long enough to get back here, right?” he said. “I’ve finally come full circle.” He noted that the two-year pause, which resulted from a back injury, was the longest hiatus in a career that spans six decades.
“The real challenge is coming back to the lineup of the show, what is next, what video is coming,” Newton said. “Just remembering the continuity is not an easy thing. It was second nature, but it needs to be re-learned when you’ve been down so long.”
The Bugsy’s venue is known as the Wayne Newton Theater when the singer is in residence.
