William Hill Australia’s ‘Click to Call’ Survives Scrutiny

The Australian Federal Police announced they will not investigate whether William Hill Australia’s “Click to Call” feature violates the country’s betting laws. William Hill officials said they stand by the feature, which allows for live play betting in sports contests.

William Hill Australia’s faith in its live betting “Click to Call” feature appears justified as the Australian Federal Police announced that it would not investigate the company for violating Australia’s online gambling on live sports.

In August, the Australian Communications & Media Authority referred a complaint on the feature to the federal police. William Hill Australia officials, however, stood by the service and did not remove it from their sites and said they were confident the service was “100 percent legal.”

In a statement, the AFP said “Following evaluation, in line with the AFP’s case categorization and prioritization model, this matter was not accepted by the AFP for further investigation,”

William Hill officials said they welcome the decision and will continue to offer “Click to Play.”

“William Hill has received formal confirmation that the Australian Federal Police will not be investigating the complaints referred to it by the Australian Communication and Media Authority regarding its ‘In-Play’ product that allows customers to bet live during a game with just a few taps,” said company CEO Tom Waterhouse in a press statement. “This is a great outcome for Australian punters who will no longer be forced to bet in-play via illegal offshore bookmakers which pose a huge threat to both consumer protection and the integrity of Australian sport.”
