The short list of bidders for a casino license on the Greek island of Cyprus got shorter last week when Macau’s Melco Crown Entertainment denied it was interested in the bidding, despite media reports to the contrary. The reports said Melco along with Philippine operator Bloomberry Resorts; and U.S.-based Hard Rock International (recently announced project in the Dominican Republic at left), were the final three, but it appears that French construction and iGaming company Bouygues rounds out the trio.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (flanked by Senate President Steve Sweeney and AC Mayor Don Guardian) has proposed a compromise plan for a state takeover of Atlantic City, which may stave off bankruptcy for the resort. Under the plan—which has the support of the city’s mayor—the state would run all of the city’s finances—including the sale of municipal assets—for five years. The plan also restores much of a funding plan recently vetoed by Christie. Atlantic City faces more than $240 million in debt that it currently can’t repay.

Caesars Entertainment has joined a growing trend toward automated check-in kiosks, which reduce check-in times to no more than four minutes when using a kiosk to check in and print a room key. A remote check-in option reduces the wait time to less than four minutes when only printing a room key.
